SK James Ian Ogilvie Biography
James Ian Ogilvie was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1977. Raised in Cranston by his loving parents David and Eunice Ogilvie and was born the youngest of four. He grew up surrounded by his immediate and extended family which helped to shape his strong family beliefs and bonds that he has with them.
He was educated in the Cranston Public School system for most of his secondary education and finishing High School in the Warwick School system. James was enrolled in the Electronics Vocational Programs and was involved within the Student Organization “Vocational Industrial Clubs of America” (V.I.C.A). He went on to be a school leader in this organization as well as a State Leader for three years on the Secondary Level. He graduated with honors in 1995. Continuing his education, he attended New England Institute of Technology where he majored in Electronics Technologies. He also continued his leadership path in “V.I.C.A.” as the school president and Regional Vice President in the State, Post-Secondary Level. During his years in “V.I.C.A.” he also competed in State Competitions in Speech and Electronics, winning multiple medals over the five years, and competing at the national level. In 1997 he graduated with honors with an A.S. in Electronics Technologies. He began his career in Electronics at G-Tech working as a Technician on the Production floor and quickly working up to Department Supervisor. He moved on to other companies over the next twenty-six years where he continued to hone his skills working in design, manufacturing, and quality engineering and to develop his leadership skills. He currently is the lab manager for a manufacturing company in Providence, Rhode Island.
Brother Ogilvie began his Masonic career at a younger age being involved in the Order of DeMolay. He joined Fidelity Chapter in 1993 and served in various offices over the next few years. He served as the Master Councilor for Fidelity Chapter in 1998 and received the Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award. After finishing his active career as a DeMolay, he went on to serve as an Advisor for Fidelity Chapter as Chapter Dad from 2001 until 2008 and as Chairman from 2015 to 2019. He is also currently serving as Chapter Advisor for Independence Priory. Brother Ogilvie is the Deputy Executive Officer for Rhode Island DeMolay and has served in this position for the current and last Executive Officer. Dad James as he prefers to be called has been honored by DeMolay International with the Degree of Chevalier in 2004, the DeMolay Cross of Honor in 2006, and the Active Legion of Honor in 2014. In 2015 he was elected as a Deputy Member of the International Supreme Council Order of DeMolay and in 2019 he was elected an Active Member of the same. In 2022 he was the second recipient of the Frank Allen Jr. Award for outstanding service to Rhode Island DeMolay. He is a current advisor for Rhode Island Rainbow, IORG; and was honored in the summer of 2023 with the Grand Cross of Color.
Brother Ogilvie was recognized by other bodies for his continued service to the Masonic youth as well. He was a recipient of the Adult Youth Leadership Award from The General Grand Council of Cryptic Masons International in 2009. He was also recognized by the Valley of Providence, Scottish Rite NMJ with the Youth Advisor of the Year Award in 2022.
Brother Ogilvie was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 2000 in Harmony Lodge #9, in Cranston, Rhode Island. He went on to serve his lodge as an officer and became Master in 2008. He was the youngest to serve as Master at Harmony Lodge. He went on to serve the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations as an Assistant Grand Lecturer from 2014 to 2019. He also served as the Grand Standard Bearer for Raymond E. Hassell in 2015. He continued to serve the Grand Lodge as a member of the Grand Lodge Youth Committee and Chairman of that committee for two years.
He was married from 2011 to 2020 and has a stepdaughter Baylee and daughter Holly who was born in 2014. Both of his daughters are his strength and support him in all that he does within his life. Holly has been his travel companion to various banquets and events and is well known within our fraternity. Baylee went on to be a member of Rainbow at Woodridge Assembly No.10 and Holly is currently a Pledge Sister for the same Assembly.
Brother Ogilvie is an active York Rite Mason with membership in Providence Chapter #1, Providence Council #1, and Calvary Commandery No. 13. He served Calvary Commandery as Commander from 2012 to 2013. He went on to serve the Grand Commandery of Knight Templar as an appointed officer in 2015.
He is a member of the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Providence. He is also a member of Rhode Island Shriners, AAONMS where he served as a Divan Officer for two years and as Boss Clown of the Clown unit for 2 years. He is also a member of various appendant bodies including Moslem Grotto, MOVPER; Swords of Bunker Hill; and What Cheer York Rite College where he is currently serving as Chancellor.
S.K. James Ian Ogilvie was installed as the Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Massachusetts and Rhode Island on October 28, 2023, and is excited to work with all Sir Knights to help strengthen and develop Templary in the coming year.
